The Shark and the Whale

If there is one fact of Navy life that all sailors of all time periods have in common is that sea duty can be really ,really dull. Sailors have found various ways to pass the time. While on watch aboard the Norfolk-based submarine USS Shark (SSN-591) somewhere underneath the Atlantic Ocean in 1961, museum docent Arthur Rebman drew this little sketch. Two others have been published in the latest issue of The Daybook, which can be downloaded for free at http://www.hrnm.navy.mil/daybook.html.
