From what my father told me, they left Hampton roads and had to turn back when the steering had an issue. On the second try they made it to France. They fired the deck gun once and it made the entire ship shake. <br /><br />In France my grandfather stole a Napoleonic artillery sword from a restaurant , which i possessed until it was destroyed in a house fire.
